How to add Hibernate to the power menu in Windows 11

To add Hibernate to the Windows 11 power menu, tick Hibernate under Shutdown settings in Control Panel and save the change. Once Windows has hibernation on, Glassline also shows Hibernate in the logo menu at the left end of its menu bar.

Show Hibernate in Windows

Start with Windows' own power options. If Hibernate is already in the power menu, you can go straight to the Glassline steps below.

  1. Open Control Panel. Choose Hardware and Sound, then Power Options.
  2. Open the power-button settings. Select Choose what the power buttons do on the left.
  3. Unlock the shutdown choices. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable. Find Shutdown settings further down the page.
  4. Select Hibernate. Tick its checkbox, then select Save changes.
  5. Check the power menu. Open Start and select Power. Look for Hibernate in the list. Leave the menu open while you check; select Hibernate when you are ready to use it.

This adds the action to Windows' power menu. Glassline gives you access to it from the menu bar too.

Enable hibernation if needed

If the Hibernate checkbox is missing, enable hibernation with the command below, then return to Control Panel. This command needs administrator permission.

  1. Open an administrator Command Prompt. Open Start and type cmd. For the Command Prompt result, choose Run as administrator, then approve the permission prompt.
  2. Turn hibernation on. Type powercfg /hibernate on and press Enter. This enables Windows' hibernation feature.
  3. Return to Power Options. Open Choose what the power buttons do again. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable, look for Hibernate under Shutdown settings, tick it and select Save changes.

Keep both parts in mind: the command enables hibernation, and the checkbox adds its entry to the power menu. If the command reports an error, keep the message and check your PC maker's support guidance before continuing.

Reach Hibernate from Glassline

With hibernation enabled in Windows, you can reach it from Glassline's logo menu.

  1. Install Glassline from the Microsoft Store. Open the app to bring up its menu bar and dock.
  2. Switch on Logo. Right-click the menu bar and choose Glassline Settings. Under Menu Bar, turn on Logo. It is off for people who updated from an older Glassline.
  3. Open the logo menu. Click the logo at the left end of the menu bar. Hibernate appears on PCs where Windows has it on. Select it when you are ready to hibernate.

If you came looking for a Mac-style look, the design is Glassline's own, made for Windows 11, and Glassline has no connection to Apple.
