How to change app volume in Windows 11

To change one app's volume in Windows 11, open Settings, then System, Sound and Volume mixer, and move that app's slider. Glassline puts your apps' sliders in Control Center, reached from the clock, and gives the app in front its own volume slider when you click its name.

Use the Windows volume mixer

  1. Open Settings. Choose System, then Sound.
  2. Choose Volume mixer. Find the app you want to change.
  3. Move that app's slider. Set its volume to the level you want while listening to it.

Windows also has separate app sliders in its taskbar audio mixer. The built-in controls handle the volume change; Glassline adds access from the clock and from the name of the app you are using.

Reach your apps from the clock

Glassline's Sound page keeps the output device and the apps playing sound together. Use it when you want to balance several apps, such as keeping music quiet while you listen to something else.

  1. Install Glassline from the Microsoft Store. Open it to bring up the menu bar and dock.
  2. Start sound in the apps you want to adjust. The Apps list on the Sound page has a slider for each app playing sound.
  3. Click the clock. Choose Controls, then Sound to open the sound controls in Control Center.
  4. Check Output. Pick the device you want to hear through, such as your speakers or headphones.
  5. Find the app under Apps. Drag its slider to lower or raise its volume. Listen as you adjust, then move to another app's slider if you want to balance them.

Adjust the app in front

For a change to the app you are using, its name in the menu bar gives you a direct way to its sound. You can reach its slider and mute button without opening the volume mixer.

  1. Bring the app forward. Its name appears near the left end of the menu bar.
  2. Click the app's name. Its app panel opens with its own volume slider and mute button.
  3. Set its volume. Drag the slider to the level you want, or click the mute button to silence that app.

App panel is on by default. If clicking the name leaves the panel closed, right-click the menu bar and choose Glassline Settings. Then choose Menu Bar and turn on App panel. The same click then brings that app's sound controls within reach.
