Mac screenshot shortcut (Cmd Shift 4) on Windows 11

For a Mac-style screenshot on Windows 11, press Windows Shift S, choose Rectangle and drag; Snipping Tool can save the capture straight to your desktop. If Cmd Shift 4 is the shortcut you know, Glassline adds Alt Shift 4 with desktop saving and Ctrl-on-release copying.

Use Windows' own screenshot keys

  1. Set up desktop saving. Open Snipping Tool, choose See More (...), then Settings. Enable automatic screenshot saving and change the Screenshots save folder to Desktop.
  2. Press Windows Shift S. Choose Rectangle, drag over the area you want and let go. Windows copies the capture to the clipboard and saves a file in the folder you chose.

Windows PrtScn saves a full-screen capture. Alt PrtScn copies the active window to the clipboard. The native drag-to-desktop workflow uses Windows Shift S and Snipping Tool's save settings. Glassline adds Alt Shift 4, desktop saving from the start and the option to hold Ctrl on release to copy instead.

Enable Glassline's shortcuts

  1. Install Glassline from the Microsoft Store. Open it before trying the shortcuts below.
  2. Open Glassline Settings. Right-click the menu bar and choose Glassline Settings, then open Shortcuts and find Screenshots.
  3. Set the two screenshot keys. Click the key shown beside Screenshot of a part and press Alt Shift 4. For Screenshot of the whole screen, record Alt Shift 3.

The screenshot shortcuts are on for new installs. If you updated from an older Glassline, they start off, so record the keys here before taking your first capture. You can click either row's key again to record another combination or turn it off.

Drag a screenshot to the desktop

  1. Press Alt Shift 4. You can now select the part of the screen you want to keep.
  2. Drag over the area. Include the content you need in the picture.
  3. Let go. Glassline saves the screenshot on your desktop at once, and a small preview slides into the corner.

To copy the selection instead of saving it, hold Ctrl as you let go. Press Esc to leave without a screenshot. For the whole screen, press Alt Shift 3: Glassline saves a separate picture for each display.

Where are screenshots saved in Windows 11?

  • Windows Shift S: the clipboard, plus a file when automatic saving is enabled. Pictures, Screenshots is the default folder. Snipping Tool's Settings lets you choose another destination, including Desktop.
  • Windows PrtScn: Pictures, Screenshots.
  • Alt PrtScn: the clipboard. Paste the capture with Ctrl V where you need it.

Glassline saves its screenshots on your desktop, at once. Holding Ctrl when you release a selection copies it instead. To check a saved picture, see preview files with the Space bar.

For the rest of the layout, see the Mac-style desktop guide and setting up the dock. The design is Glassline's own, made for Windows 11, and Glassline has no connection to Apple.
