How to make taskbar icons bigger in Windows 11
To make compact taskbar icons bigger in Windows 11, change Taskbar size from Small to Default in Windows Settings. For a larger interface, increase Scale under System, Display. Glassline adds a replacement dock with an Icon size control that grows its icons while keeping the dock’s height and length.
Change the size in Windows
- Open Windows Settings. Choose Personalization, then Taskbar, then Taskbar behaviors.
- Check Taskbar size. If it is set to Small, choose Default to bring the taskbar and its icons back to their normal size.
- Increase Scale for a larger interface. Open Settings, System, Display. Under Scale & layout, choose a higher percentage in Scale.
The compact taskbar reached the public release with the September 8, 2026 update, KB5124008, and is included in the October 13 cumulative update, KB5127648. Availability can depend on gradual rollout.
Default restores normal-size icons; Scale also enlarges text and apps across the display. Glassline gives its dock separate controls for the icons and the space around them.
Grow the icons inside your dock
- Install Glassline from the Microsoft Store. Open it to get the menu bar and dock that replace the Windows taskbar and Start menu.
- Open Glassline Settings. Right-click the menu bar and choose Glassline Settings, then open Dock.
- Find Icon size. Leave Dock size where it is so you can see what changing the icons alone does.
- Drag Icon size to the right. Watch the app icons grow as you drag. The dock keeps its height and length, and the room above, below and between the icons gets smaller.
- Stop at a comfortable size. Move the pointer away from the dock to judge the result. Glassline also magnifies icons under the pointer, so look at their resting size.
Choose what gets bigger
Dock size changes how tall the whole dock is. Its icons grow and shrink with it. Use this when you want a larger dock around larger icons.
Icon size changes the icons inside the dock you already have. Start here when the dock takes up the right amount of screen space but the apps look small.
Margins controls the room above and below the icons. Lower it to make a slimmer dock around icons of the same size, or raise it for more room. As Icon size grows, Margins goes down by itself.
Give the icons room
The icons stop growing before they touch. If Icon size reaches its limit, increase Icon spacing to leave them more room, then adjust Icon size again. Watch the dock while you drag so you can judge both the size and the gaps.
