How to make app folders on the Windows 11 taskbar
To keep app folders at the bottom of Windows 11, make them in Glassline's dock, which replaces the taskbar. Windows has folders for pinned apps inside Start too. Glassline gives each folder its own dock icon: click it to open a panel of apps.
Group apps in Windows Start
- Open Start. Find the apps you want to group. Right-click each app and choose Pin to Start if it is not already pinned.
- Drag one pinned app onto another. Windows puts them together in a folder. Drag more pinned apps into it to add them.
- Name the folder. Open it, click its name field and type a name such as Work.
This groups your apps inside Start. Glassline adds folders that open from the dock.
Create your dock folder
- Install Glassline from the Microsoft Store. Open it to get the menu bar and dock that replace the Windows taskbar.
- Right-click the dock. Choose New Folder in the Dock. Your new folder stands on the right side, alongside the folders you keep there.
- Name it for its apps. Right-click the folder's icon to rename it. Try Work, Gaming or Browsers, depending on what you want to put together.
Add and open apps
- Open Glassline Search. Press the Windows key and type the name of an app you want in the folder.
- Drag the app onto the folder's icon. It joins the folder. Repeat this for the other apps you want to keep together.
- Click the folder in the dock. Its panel opens with the apps inside. Click an app to start it.
Start with the apps you use for one activity. For example, put your work apps in Work so you can reach them through the same folder icon.
Change the contents
Right-click the folder's icon to rename it, make a folder inside it or delete it. An inner folder opens in the same panel, so you can keep smaller groups within Work or Gaming.
To take an app out, open the folder and right-click that app. Deleting a folder never uninstalls its apps.
For folders in the full-screen app view, see how to use Glassline's Launchpad.
Save your folders
Your folders are part of a Glassline backup. Once you have arranged them, right-click the menu bar and open Glassline Settings. Under General, press Save Backup... to save your setup to one file.
